Hey all, I am brand new to the community, and thought I would do a little survey so everyone could get to know me. I am 24 years old, and am currently an instructor for my local high school winterguard.
What year did you start spinning? 1990. The first colorguard I was in was Golden Nuggets, they were a junior guard and consisted of children from 6 (me and 1 other person) to age 13. At the age of 11, being the youngest I moved into the Golden Sabres. We were in the Independent Open class. I did that for two years, and then was pulled. Two years later I entered into high school and went into marching band and winterguard. After graduating I was able to find an Independent World class guard. I broke my foot in two places just 1 month before the first competition. I wasn't able to even walk on the foot for 6 weeks. And the cast wouldn't come off for 4 weeks after that. So in total I have done 11 years total of guard.
How many seasons of winter have you been in? 11 years, but only 9 seasons of indoor.
Ever done marching band? 3 years.
How many friends do you have because of guard? Lots of people I know
Can you do a toss turn around on Flag? Yes, haven't done it lately though.
Can you do it on Rifle or Sabre? I really haven't worked with a rifle or sabre seriously in about 6 years.
Have any nicknames that are just from guard? no
How many times have you been to WGI Champs? Never.
Ever been in Finals? No, but we got the semi finals the first time we went.
Ever gotten over 90 in WGI? No, 83 was our highest.
What are you best at? Technique- rifle, everything else- flag.
What is your favorite: DCA, DCI, Winterguard, or Marching band? Winterguard
What world class colorguard would you do anything to be in? Field of View. They have been amazing even since I was 6.
How many flags, rifles, sabers, uniforms, etc do you still have? 1 regular rifle, 1 jr. rifle, 1 jr (5.5 ft) flag.
Ever had to get x-rays because of something you did in guard? YES!
How many blood blisters have you gotten from spinning your ass off? Far too many.
Do you have ADD when learning drill or going over something a hundred times? Nope.
Does the Rainbow guard make you cry? I think it is very cool, but not sob worthy.
Do you have guard parents that do just as much for you as their own? yes.
Ever gone broke because this shit is just so addicting its worse than drugs? YES!
When an instructor says One More Time do you cry a little inside because you know that its ten more times? Yes
Ever dated a drummer? No. I never dated anyone from High school
Ever been run over by a corps/band member during a show? no.
Have you ever been hit by someone elses equipment during practice or show? Yea, lost a toe nail in an exchange toss.
Ever wanted to hit them back? No.
Are all your practice clothes black? No.
Do you think you own more dance clothes than a professional dancer? No.
What uniform is your favorite ever? The outfit for scaraborough fair show we did.
If you broke your leg the day before finals what would you do? Be very sad. Not as sad if it was at the beginning of the season. Current Mood: accomplished

Because we've all worn them
We've all worn them, been blinded by them, loved them, had them foisted upon us... what are they, you say? Why, ugly guard uniforms.
In response to a surprising lack in the eljay community at large, a friend and I have just started up a new community: sequin_vomit
. We seek nothing more than to be your very own repository of atrocious dancewear and traumatic costume stories.
Please come! post! poke fun at things like this:

Washington Post Article
Hey, does anyone remember the article the Washington Post did on winterguard? Does anyone know how they got onto that story?

Any ideas for boosting morale? I feel like its been dragging lately in my group, or more precisely the band is dragging the colorguard down with them. Does anyone have any stuggestions for improving attitude/pracitce etiquette/over group feeling or atleast someway stop the band from dragging the guard down with them?

27 places in space
I'm going to start teaching a colorguard in a couple weeks, and I need a refresher on 27 places. I have done the drill a million times, and understand hand positions and angles and whatnot, I just need to be reminded of the number/sequence the drill goes in.
I'm cross-posting this to multiple guard communities, so I apologize to those of you who read this multiple times!
Thanks in advance!

St. Clair IndependentIs hosting a CAMP THIS SATURDAY!!
St. Clair Shores
When? August 5th, 10 am - 4 pm
Where? Exact location will be determined very shortly. Most likely in the St. Clair Shores, Michigan area. The precise location will be posted once it is certain. If you message me expressing interest I will make sure to clue you in as soon as I get the word!
The cost for the entire day's worth of activities is only $10!!
The staff advises you bring (and I quote): A positive attitude, bag lunch, Sabre, Rifle, Flag if you have them. If not, there are PLENTY to go around, and gloves if you need them.
This clinic is not specificly oriented towards people trying out. If you want a good day of spinning it should be a blast! It isn't geared only towards people that are super amazing either so don't be afraid if you don't think your "that good". Thats what Camps are for!!
Also, it will be much cooler by the end of the week ::whew:: no 100+ degree days LOL
P.S. No you arn't just seeing double (or more) this HAS been XPosted like crazy ;-)

Hello, I'm Tiffany.
I'm captain of my guard and we went through all of our old silks and everything and are planning on selling some. If any of you need some silks, let me know. We're going to take pictures and put them up. We also have two winter guard floors. One is a royalish blue color and the other is black & white [reversible.. one side black, the other white].

Hello all. I'm Starry, a freshman in my school's colorgaurd. Being the only freshman at last summer's band camp, I got to learn to spin flag, rifle, and sabre. For winterguard, I was captain of the flagline until recently when all 5 of them quit. Now I've been thrown onto the weapon line, which I can barely keep up with. I think I'm doing pretty well considering. I finally got my triples on rifle and sabre last week, so that makes me happy. So yeah. I like talking to people. I'm random and funny. IM me sometime, yo!

hi everyone, my name is melissa and i'm the co-captain of cardinal gibbions' guard. we're on the sfwga circuit, if anyone wanted to know
i have a problem though- the girls are having serious problems getting into the show. and personaly i think they're haveing problems getting into guard completly. our show is supposed to be sad. so mabey they they think they don't have to smile they just don't have to do anything.
last week our score was 29.9, this week was a 34.0.
i can't think of what we can do to motivate these girls. my coach is out of ideas, and so are the other captains.
if you can think of anything please comment.
- thanks, melissa-

XPOSTED -- look for a cloak
I'd like to get a black plushy velvet cloak with white silk lining similiar, if not exact, to the kind I saw the color guard captains (and three different female drum majors) wearing during the award ceremonies at the WBA championships.
Where can I purchase one of these?
Please provide a name of a catalog or internet link.

A Bob Finnly (spelling?) will be visiting the New Milford guard to teach us our drill. This man is scary, terrifying in fact, but he's good.
In other news this happened at practice on tuesday.
Jason: So I want you to be able to do a tripple and a quad by "try outs."
Me: So uhm, when are these "try outs"?
Prior to that practice I could only throw a single on rifle and sabre. I've wanted to be on weapon line since last winter, so that news was like "You're screwed." But I really wanna be on weapon line. It's thursday now and I can totally throw a tripple on a rifle, and a quad on a sabre. I'm covered in bruises, but I can do them. Does anyone know any nifty things that they can describe how to do on either weapon? *Big cheesy smile*
